The task of inspiring generations is a privilege as well as a massive responsibility. Few have been able to grasp the enormity of this responsibility and fewer have succeeded in meeting its demands. Maya Angelou belongs in the latter class and with her transition to glory, we have the option of mourning or celebrating her never-dying spirit by passing on her brilliant spark.

In his poem, written as a moving tribute to Maya Angelou, Chibuzo Ejiogu explores the ‘Mayan’ soul. This poem inspired me. Let it inspire you. Remember our girls and our singular demand, #BringBackOurGirls

Maya Angelou<

I know why the caged bird sings
When freedom takes flight on wings
When the pulse in the heart becomes an aching hole

A feeling of pain deep in the soul
I know why the caged bird sings
And through the hills and valleys it rings

A prayer to heaven
A cry for freedom
A song for justice
…I know why the caged bird sings

Written by Chibuzo Ejiogu, on Wednesday 28 May, 2014, the day Maya Angelou left her earthly cage; fly on Maya, Sing on.

#BringBackOurGirls…is a cry for freedom!
